Elena Cecchinato is an Italian-born artist living in the Uk, working across different mediums, primarily drawing but also painting, automatic writing, installation, video, sound composition and ceramic. For Elena art is a way to explore and expose the contradictions and similarities within different cultural practices, a way to find unity in the fragmentation of life. Her work tackles universally human subjects such as identity, transformation, spirituality, injustices, sexuality, while challenging traditional tropes and portrayals around humanity and the environment.
“Expression produces formal solutions, images and meanings and in my art practice I want to transcend the realms of science and religion, the private and the political, the transgender, macro and micro economies, plurality and uniqueness, the visible and the invisible. “
